How to Get a Good Nights Sleep

Updated: Jul 20, 2021

Sleep is beyond important to our overall health and wellness. Here are a few tips to help get a good nights sleep and reset your mind and your body.

What to do Throughout the Day to Sleep at Night

  • Workout in the morning or early on in the day. If you workout to close to when you go to sleep you most likely will have a hard time falling asleep because of a hotter core temp.

  • Drink enough water throughout the day to regulate your body temperature.

  • Get active.

  • Walk more.

  • Incorporate anti-inflammatory foods into your diet.

  • Drink less caffeine.

  • No caffeine after 2pm.

  • Stretch.

  • Meditate.

  • Swap coffee for tea or match.

  • Incorporate more whole foods in to your diet.

  • Try to keep busy during the day.

  • Give yourself some time to wind down before going to bed.

  • Set a bedtime for yourself and get into a routine. These are just a few tips I recommend that have helped my sleep. These are also things you can do throughout the day.

What You Should Try Closer to Bedtime

  • Bedtime/Nighty night tea.

  • Try taking Magnesium Citrate.

  • Give yourself 1-2 hours to relax and wind down before going to sleep.

  • No screen time 30 minutes - 1 hour before bed.

  • Take an epsom salt bath.

  • Practice 30 minutes of yoga.

  • Try breath work.

  • Meditation.

  • Read a good book.

  • Write.

  • Smell some lavender or essential oils.

Last Tip:

Don't force yourself to sleep. If you are not tired get out of bed, get a drink of water, walk around, try some yoga. The longer you lay in bed and try to force yourself to sleep, the harder it will be. Give yourself 30 minutes - 1 hour to get up and wait until you feel sleepy to try and sleep. Once you get in to a routine of going to sleep and waking up around the same time, this should regulate and falling asleep will become easier for you.
