Creating healthy habits can be tough. Waking up and reading about all the different ways we can take care of ourselves can get extremely overwhelming. You need to find a healthy balance that works best for you. We all have different goals. The best way to reach our goals is by creating healthy habits. No one is motivated 24/7 but once something is a “habit” it is easier to stick to it. Below I am going to share my tips on how to create and maintain healthy habits.

1. Write & Journal ~ Writing down your short & long term goals will create that motivation and drive to start working towards those goals.
2. Create realistic short & long term goals ~ Writing down too many goals at once will overwhelm you and create added stress. Make sure your goals are realistically reachable.
3. Once you have your goals written down, you are going to create a plan on how to reach them. (This is the start of creating habits). As you start planning out how to reach your specific goals, the plans will ultimately include specific habits. Example ~ If one of your goals is to get active or exercise. A “plan” will most likely include making time to exercise. Which may require you to wake up earlier (new habit), bring clothes to change into and go to the gym from work (new habit), working out during your lunch break (new habit). This is just one example of many. But how does a plan turn into a habit?
4. Consistency ~ The hard part comes once you have your goals and plan written out. Following through and staying consistent. To maintain consistency, you need to find motivation within yourself. Staying consistent means pushing past your excuses. Consistency with healthy habits will get easier over time. Which brings us to our last tip on creating and maintaining healthy habits.
5. Time ~ Habits are not created overnight. It takes motivation and discipline within yourself to stay consistent with new regimens. Over time, new healthy regimens will turn into habits. It takes 21 days to build a habit. And once your new healthy regimens turn into habits, they become easier to maintain over time.

Everyone has their own short and long term goals in life. What are you going to do today that your future self will thank you for? Make one tiny change, add something into your daily routine, practice self-care, exercise, read, etc. Create a new regimen that prioritizes self-care, practice it for 21 days, and you’ve got yourself a new healthy habit.
